Background: For this SLP component, you will be discussing the core functions of public health in the context of your topic.
Assignment
Address all three functions.
1 Assessment: What type of information is usually gathered and analyzed to describe the status and the needs of the community related to this public health issue (e.g., health indicators, incidence, and prevalence of disease)? Who gathers this information and how is it analyzed?
2 Policy development: What policies have been developed and at what level that relate to your topic? Why were these policies developed? What policies would be needed?
3 Assurance: Discuss health promotion programs related to your topic. How is quality of related services maintained and monitored? Discuss standards and regulations as well as licensure issues related to your topic.
Assignment Expectations
Length: The SLP assignment should be 2-3 pages in length.
References: At least two references should be included from academic sources (e.g., peer-reviewed journal articles). Required readings are included. Quoted materials should not exceed 10% of the total paper (since the focus of these assignments is critical thinking). Use your own words and build on the ideas of others. Materials copied verbatim from external sources must be enclosed in quotation marks. In-text citations are required as well as a list of references at the end of the assignment. (APA format is recommended.)

Format: APA format is recommended for this assignment.

Public health involves disease prevention, prolonging the lives of people, and promoting efficiency and physical health. This is achievable through community efforts to ensure the environment is clean, educate people on personal hygiene, controlling community infections, organizing medical and nursing services for advance diagnosis and prevention treatment of diseases, and developing social machinery to make sure all people in the community lead healthier and safe lives (Ruggiero, 2007).
