What are the historical forces on the healthcare delivery system, or who controls health care in the United States today? Why?
The U.S. government has a prominent role in the delivery of healthcare and has historically participated in the healthcare system with federal, state, and local governments all playing integral roles in the delivery of healthcare. The federal government is responsible for providing regulations and funding, with two of the biggest programs in healthcare delivery in America, Medicare and Medicaid. Regulatory legislation such as the EMTALA provide emergency services and care to all patients regardless if they can pay or not.
