Conduct research to identify a recent ethical problem involving a US-based multinational company or a foreign MNC operating in the US. Examples include fraud, bribing government officials, unfair hiring practices, poor working conditions, failing to pay workers properly, bad management practices, harassment, discrimination, falsifying records, etc.
Describe the problem and the company’s response to it.
What were the consequences of the problem for the company’s reputation and operations?
Critically analyze the causes of the problem. Be sure to consider the company’s culture and management practices, as well as the regulatory environment and level of corruption in the country where the problem occurred (e.g. was the problem due to just a few unethical employees, to a company culture that emphasizes financial success at all costs, to pressure to deliver business results quickly at all costs, to the prevalence of unethical practices in the foreign country or in the industry, etc.).
What management/HRM practices can contribute to creating a culture of ethical decision making in a multinational company? How can the HR function help to prevent ethical problems such as the one described in your paper from re-occurring (e.g. through appropriate selection practices, monitoring employee behavior, using rewards and punishment, etc.)?
Your paper should be 2 to 3 pages long. Please cite all references properly, using either APA or the Turabian style guide.
