The division heads across all territories are given autonomy that helps them make decisions according to local needs. The decisions are made at each level meaning that managers make decisions at their assigned levels. The decentralized organizational structure at low level teams that encourages employees to actively participate and take initiative in voicing any problems and improvement ideas. (Thompson et al., 2020). Additionally, the company can maximize its employees creative thinking, intellectual capital, and networking potential by providing easy access to engage in small projects without too many layers of permissions.
The power of decision-making is decentralized from the top level to the middle level (Hilorme, 2019). This makes the decision-making easier and faster and allows the middle managers to decide and employ the manpower according to their requirements for the project completion. The general criteria for selecting off-the-shelf software including Cost, Functionality, Vendor support, Viability of vendor, Flexibility, Documentation, Response time, Ease of installation(Valacich & George, 2019), the following criteria should be considered as well: 1.User friendly: To assess if the software is designed to be easily learned and used by the employees. Most employees are not tech-oriented type people who do not have a strong education background in high technology tools, thus it would be a plus if it is enjoyable to use. The functional part is that it lessens employee’s time and effort in learning the software and organization’s resource on user training. However, it can also be dysfunctional when the software is used for undesired purposes. 2. Platform compatibility: To assess if the software is compatible with or is easy to integrate with the existing IT platform (Windows/Linux) that is currently running within the organization. It is useful because it prevents the organization from undertaking additional work that occurs because the software does not fully function on an existing platform. 3. Process flow: To assess if the software works well with the current work process. A large scale of changes to the current process would incur hidden costs in efficiency and effectiveness. I am in the advertising industry, specifically working at an Advertising Agency who specializes in advertising on the Amazon platform. That being said, we have access to a very large quantity of data stemming from Amazon. Most of this Data can be pulled through API’s that Amazon makes available, which in turn means that there are several platforms on the market that offer services. My company was faced with the question of working with outside platforms to pull in the Amazon data or build an in-house platform that could be customizable to the company’s and our client’s needs. Based on a variety of criterion the company chose the second and now have built a platform that has been optimized to our company’s needs and provides our clients with data and visuals that would otherwise be very manual.
