Chapter 1
INTRODUCTION
Introduction / Rationale of the Study
Write the reason(s) why this research is needed. Describe the situation that led to the need for this research.
Statement of the Problem
Clearly present the research problem and objectives. The research problem and objectives gives you the basis for the research method and discussions. Ensure that the problem is statement unambiguously.
Aims and Objectives of the Study
Clearly present the specific aims and objectives of the study
Research Questions
Mention the research questions addressed.
Scope and Limitation
What are included in this research and what are not included in this research. Describe the coverage of this research. Describe also the limitations encountered by the researcher which also limits the results of the study.
Significance of the Study
Who will benefit from this research and how?
DEFINITION OF TERMS
Identify the words from the research problem and objectives. These are the same words that should be included in the Abstract. Define these words here in terms of how such words are used in this research and not how other authors define them.
Organization Profile (Context of the Research)
Conclusion
Summarize the information given in this chapter and the link that is expected in the next chapter.
Chapter 2
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
Introduction
Make a connection to what has immediately gone before. Recap the last chapter. Example ‘In the last chapter it was shown that… Having argued in the previous chapter that…’ It is also possible to make a link between this chapter and the whole argument… The first step in answering the research question (repeat question) .. was to present below the related literature .
Related Literature
Include here the theories used to support this research. Include the findings of other researchers. (Only include literature related to study carried in a time span of 10 years, with the exception of referring to the framework/theories provided by the pioneers in the field)
Paper should vary between empirical and conceptual paper.
Relevant literature to the research context should also be included.
Conceptual Framework
The content here depends on the nature of study. This section should include an operational definition, the different variables used in the study and their interrelationships.
Prepare a diagram to show the dependent and independent variables and their relationships.
Research Gap
Identify the gap from the existing literature and focus on how the proposed study contribute to the field. Contribution could be in terms of innovative idea or it could be an extension of existing knowledge or as well it could be in terms of methodological and contextual contribution.
Relevance of Research Question/ Research Objectives/problem after Gap Analysis
Chapter 3
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Introduction
Now focus the reader’s attention on what this chapter is specifically going to do and why it is important. Example ‘In this chapter we will examine the … This is crucial in (aim of thesis/research question) in order to….
Type of Research
Brief about the type of study, quantitative or qualitative or mixed method.
Justify why this type of research is preferred in the current research.
Research Design
Population and Sample
Dependent and Independent Variables (This is for quantitative research mostly)
Research Respondents
Provide the sampling method used. Describe the respondents of the study.
Research Instrument
Describe the research instrument(s) used to gather primary data.
Include a sample of attempted interview schedule/questionnaire (annex it along with the report)
Research Procedure
Gathering of Data
Describe the ethical implications Describe the procedure used in gathering primary and/or secondary data.
Treatment of Data
Describe the procedure in analyzing the data. What statistical tool was used?
Conclusion
Summarize the information given in this chapter and the link that is expected in the next chapter.
Chapter 4
PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS, AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA
Introduction
This chapter will show how the data gathered are going to achieve the aims of the study.
Organize this chapter using the research problem and objectives as guide. When discussing the result of the survey, relate to related literature. Do the findings affirm or negate the findings of other researchers?
Chapter 5
FINDINGS AND DICUSSION
Findings will tend to describe what the research has found in light of the research objectives/research questions. They should also relate the findings with the previous studies and relevant theories related to the subject. The key findings should be highlighted on the extent to which the contribution is actually innovative or an extension to an existing knowledge. Or it is supporting previous findings or it contradicts the existing literature (a conceptual framework would either be created based on the findings, or an existing one which has been established in the literature review chapter would be evaluated or realigned to the findings of this study, highlighting the key findings.
Chapter 6
CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Conclusion
Organize this chapter using the research problem and objectives as guide. Connect each conclusion to the findings made in the previous chapter.
Recommendations
Organize this chapter using the research problem and objectives as guide. Connect each recommendation to the findings made in the previous chapter.
