Health Advocacy/Policy Pitch/ “Elevator Speech” Advocating for patients, the profession or even an organizational need means that we find our voice and connect with someone who will help us achieve something. We must focus on an issue that is significant. We can do this in several ways and one of them is through a short, focused, message. An “elevator speech” is a message intended to spur decision makers to action. An elevator speech must be short, specific, concise, evidence-based and persuasive. Think of an issue that you are passionate about and where some action is needed to impact change to improve a patient need or perhaps a student need. Then think of who your audience is. Now think of your message.
